The workshop “The role of public employment service in enterprise restructuring”

As part of the co-operation of central European public employment services the workshop “The role of public employment service in enterprise restructuring” was held in Dubrovnik, Croatia, on 3 - 5 May 2003, organised by the Employment Service of Croatia.

Apart from the Croatian employment service's representatives, the participants in the workshop were also the representatives of the Austrian, German, Hungarian, Polish, Slovak and Slovene employment services, as well as of the European Training Foundation from Turin, Italy, the company IMC Consulting from the United Kingdom (which is involved in social restructuring in central Bosnia) and the company Vetropack Straža, d.d., who presented their concrete case of company restructuring.

The Employment Service of Slovenia's representatives – Mrs. Cvetka Sreš, Mrs. Lučila Hvala and Mrs. Sonja Žmitek Govc – presented the role of the Employment Service of Slovenia in resolving the issue of redundant workers in textile, clothing, leather-processing and shoe-making industries for 2003.

Part of the workshop consisted of working in two groups which focused on Institutional support to companies in restructuring and Active employment policy for redundant workers, and resulted in the conclusions drawn up by the participants. For the representatives of the Employment Service of Slovenia the workshop was also an opportunity to exchange information and knowledge about the method of work in employment services from other countries, particularly as regards the process of restructuring.

Such meetings within the co-operation of central European public employment services have already become traditional, since about two to three workshops are organised per year, focusing on the topic which is interesting to employment services of all participating countries (Austria, The Czech Republic, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia).
