VIGC

VIGCs (Vocational Information and Guidance Centres) are intended to supply young people making their first decision on their future occupation, and adults (unemployed and those in employment) changing their professional career, seeking new employment or wishing to continue their education, with correct and sufficient information to make it easier for them to take decisions independently. They are also of assistance to careers advisors, to job advisors who need information in order to improve their work results, and to other interested parties. VIGCs provide information in a variety of media: in written form, on the internet and through a variety of video presentations. In 2007 VIGC information was sought in person or over the telephone or was otherwise communicated to 74,023 users.

The VIGC library currently stocks:  

  • descriptions of occupations
  • information on education and training
  • information on financial assistance for education and training
  • information on employment possibilities
  • aids on how to find employment
  • computer programmes for independent career planning

In nine years of operation, a network of 35 centres and 6 info points has been created. In 2007 there were VIGCs operating in Ljubljana, Maribor and Koper, and VIGC information locations operating in the following locations throughout Slovenia: Ajdovščina, Brežice, Domžale, Jesenice, Kamnik, Kočevje, Kranj, Lendava, Murska Sobota, Postojna, Ptuj, Ribnica, Slovenska Bistrica, Škofja Loka and Velenje. In these locations the VIGCs operate within the ESS, and in the following they work in cooperation with partners in their premises. These locations are: Celje, Idrija, Nova Gorica, Novo mesto, Slovenj Gradec, Šentjur pri Celju, Šmarje pri Jelšah, Tolmin, Zagorje and Žalec. The partners are folk high schools, regional development agencies, libraries and municipalities.
