The ESS is an independent legal entity with public institute status, operating uniformly for the territory of the Republic of Slovenia. It was founded on the basis of Article 61 of the Act. In 2007 the registered office of the ESS was in Ljubljana, at Rožna dolina, Cesta IX / 6.

The organisational and functional aspects of ESS operations take place on three levels: at ESS headquarters, where the management and the central office are located, in regional offices and in local offices throughout Slovenia.

Local labour offices

Through direct contact, local offices (LOs) provide clients with rights relating to the provision of jobs and work, employment advice, exercising rights deriving from unemployment insurance, the implementation of employment programmes, vocational guidance for young people and adults, and grants.

Regional offices

Regional offices (ROs) perform professional and operational tasks relating to ESS activities in their area, monitor and study employment and unemployment trends, provide advice and professional and operational help to LOs in their territory, and work with employers, contractors providing ESS services and regional and local players on the labour market.

Central office

The central office (CO) ensures that there is a uniform methodology for the professional and operational execution of procedures relating to ESS activities, and provides all organisational areas within the ESS with informational, analytical, legal, personnel, financial, accounting and developmental support.

ESS management

ESS management ensures organisation, management and a professional approach in the application of the Act and of other laws and regulations whose provisions relate to ESS activities.

Since 25 January 2007 the function of director-general has been performed by Marija Poglajen (previously by Anka Rode, acting director-general). Since 15 March 2007 Bojan SUVOROV has been deputy director-general, and up until 28 February 2007 Tanja PINTAR KORENT.  

Assistant director-generals have been:

• Jurij SNOJ since 16 March 2007,

• Franc BELČIČ,

• Nevenka ZAVIRŠEK since 1 May 2007,

• Nataša PUC since 1 September 2007
