2005 Annual Report Rights arising from unemployment insurance The fall in the number of unemployment benefit and assistance claimants stopped in 2005, and the number began to rise again. At the end of December the ESS paid unemployment benefit to 17,684 people, 8.0% more than at the end of 2004. In 2005 a monthly average of 17,099 people received unemployment benefit. There were 6,059 recipients of unemployment assistance at the end of 2005, 1.3% more than in December 2004, with a monthly average of 6,195 recipients. Compared to 2004, the structure of recipients of unemployment benefit changed with regard to work period and age, with the proportion of older workers with longer work periods increasing. The ESS also in 2005 provided coordination of social security in the EU in the area of unemployment insurance: 52 people entitled to unemployment benefit imported their rights to Slovenia, while 7 people from Slovenia exercised this option and sought employment in other EU member states while retaining the right to unemployment benefit.
